The hummers at my house certainly love it. I see butterflies at it also. The only problem , which I still have to address, is that the red morning glory will seed all over and you really have to stay on top of it or it will overwhelm other plants. I've seen it work where the gardener has used a free standing trellis in its own area for the vine. This way you can pull all other volunteers. You just have to find a sunny spot you are willing to dedicate to the morning glory, and remember that it will be bare all winter.

Edited to add that you might try the red native honeysuckle. It will get huge but it doesn't volunteer and it stays somewhat green in the winter here in Georgia. The hummers will love it also.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I have had honeysuckle as well as other vines but my garden is just too small and I've removed all of them. Just looking for something small; the reseeding I can handle. I have a small greenhouse so can start the morning glory early and hope it will begin blooming mid summer. I suspect it requires heat to bloom, much like the salvia.

May I ask, do you grow the Red Crimson (the one with the white throat?)

The flowers on mine are more orangey red. I think they are Ipomoea coccinea or Ipomoea hederifolia. The hederifolia one is native to the SE of the US. Google it and look at the images--you'll see how big it can get. Good luck!

Oh, thank you so much for all of your help. Onaleeseeds has them. Will place an order right now. Looks like a much better choice when planting for the hummers and butterflies. They seem to prefer plants that are native to an area and I think these will be perfect for my purpose. Won't mind the reseeding at all as I usually walk the garden at least once a day to check on everything. Will just pull where I don't want them to grow.

I just discovered Cypress vine. The hummers love it! It come in red, white or pink flowers. It is an annual here, but it reseeds.
