Curb appeal help needed please!

My husband and I have spent the last several years remodeling the inside of our house, and we are finally ready to tackle the outside! We will be getting a new roof and siding this fall, and landscaping come spring. The problem is that I have no vision at all for it! I would hate to put that much money into the house and not have it gain some much needed curb appeal!

Some things we are thinking:

*Adding some sort of portico over the front door

*Adding a front walk and replacing the temporary stoop

*Replacing the garden window with a regular one. I also dislike the shutters on the window (looks fake) but not sure if I should lose the shutters on the other windows (they are off in the pictures because we just replaced the windows)?

*Looking for a way to break up the two-story part of the house jutting out on the left side

*I’ve had some friends suggest adding stone (which I love) but i’m not sure how we’d incorporate it?

*Leaning toward gray for siding, but not sure what kind? Or what color roof to go with it.

As you can see we are clueless! I don’t want to try too hard to make it something it’s not, but would love to add some character! I love the homey inviting look of old farmhouses and cottages. My husband wants to get this done before winter, so I’m really feeling the pressure to get this project going, but I am so design-decisioned out! I would love to hear any suggestions you have. Thank you in advance for your help!
