Part of the problem is that the walk is too narrow for the porch; it should widen as it makes the turn towards the house. Also, though it's hard to tell without a picture of the whole front from a greater distance from the house, I think the bed between the walk and the house should include the entire space. with larger masses of plants, including groundcovers. Obviously, the Miscanthus grasses are very unhappy in that location. There are grasses that might be happy there, but you should be looking for plants for shade.

BTW, whenever you request plant advice, you MUST include your zone and general location. (I'm guessing eastern US, zone 5 or 6 but it's just a guess)
