Could you use the rug in another room? I do not care for it with that sofa. Also, I would remove those white blinds. If you need them for privacy at night at least raise them during the day and use grommet top panels to cover them at night. Let the natural light come in.

You will need end tables and lamps. Try to get a rug that has the sofa color and black in it. What color is on the walls?

I would paint the room a soft white. Can you move that couch out a bit from the wall ? Buy a large mirror to open up the space on the large wall where the cupboard is. This will make the space larger. Or a large colourful painting.
You should buy a lamp that hangs over the couch that is also slate colour. Pick up a chevron patterned grey and white rug if you can. Two small round coffee tables that are glass would fit well with the harsh couch angles.
A plant in the corner would fill up the space also above the closet. More dramatic lighting in here is key. Pick curtains that will go longer from the window to appear larger. Curtains could be a soft cream or small pattern.

I would move the couch away from the wall. Center it so that the living room is accessible from the other angles too.

Thanks you all for some of the advice, these are great ideas. I added some more pictures so you can get a better idea of the room. I'm not sure what color the walls are now because I was like that when we moved a couple months ago however I know I want it a lighter color to match the things I have now.

Do you think I should add matchstick blinds to the sliding door behind the couch and other windows to leave curtains?

@er612 thanks for images, i really like the change you made. Great idea, i planned on changing the fan to a lighting fixture like the one you have.

What color curtains would you recommend choose with the couch color, rug color and if i change the wall to a light grey almost white.

I have a lot of empty space on the wall with the media center, i will be getting a tv above the media chest but i have no idea what to put on the two sides? Any help there!

What if you created a gallery wall with Bob Marley and the other pics that are currently in your dining room?

I would also add an end table and table lamp between the media console and sofa.

Love the gallery wall. Could I suggest a large plant in the left corner of the media wall?

I also think the rug should be double the size
