Find out if the tile you selected comes with bullnose tiles. They'll give you the finished edge.

Most glass tiles do not have a finishing bullnosed edge. You will need to find a glass pencil liner (or travertine) to give a finished look.

yes, a pencil is one option, or there is edging available that just smoothes the edge (with, say, white plastic or silvery metal).

acm just smoothing the edge sounds great to me. I have the same concern. But you did not say what these products are or where to buy them and no one at stores here have been any help! What are these products/

A schluter edge is a standard finish treatment. It has to be installed before the tile.

What Sophie said, and any tile store will be able to educate you on schluter products or schluter-type products for finishing the edge. But if you have already installed the tile, it is too late unfortunately.

I think I had one contractor sort of retrofit something to do the same job after the tile was already installed (at least I think it was after) but I'm not sure what he used. Look at the little edge to the left of the window in this photo:

You can get by without the horrible schluter product. Use a bullnosed product to finish or have the installer skim some grout over the edge and keep your fingers crossed that it stays.

Yes not sure what is horrible about schluter either. Used it extensively in our master bath reno and it looks very good.

Apologies live_wire_oak I've only been in the flooring industry for the last 30+ years. I was not aware that most tiles these days don't offer bullnose...as a matter of fact I believe 90% of the products in my showroom have coordinating bullnose. Whether it's tile or natural stone, they have some sort of coordinating trim. Glass is a little more difficult, it doesn't always have coordinating trim pieces but you can get creative and find other glass products similar to what I posted in my first comment that can compliment the product you are installing.
Now, if you want the metal finish by all means do what you like. But do know it's not your only option.

I get the impression that people think a Schluter edge equates to a metal banded look. I used a non-metal Schluter edge that matches the tile nearly exactly. Can you see it? Yes, if you look. Can you see it on first glance around the room? No. It blends in beautifully and finishes off edges without the bulk of a bullnose or the like. The colors cost a little more and they are sometimes a special order, but in my opinion, very well worth it.

I just finished my backsplash and I used the metal Schluter edge. I hated it I wished I never used it! I finished off the rest of the edging with the grout i molding it to form the square finished edge. Looks great but I guess everyone is different.

Ericka- I couldn't agree with you more about the METAL Schluter. What I was describing was a plastic type of Schluter that comes in many colors. When you match the tile color, there is no contrast and it just looks finished without anyone thinking twice about it.

I thought it was a Schluter product, but maybe it's not????? I bought it from Kate-Lo Tile & Stone in Plymouth Minnesota. Their phone number is 763-450-3636. There were many colors to choose from. We found the closest match and went with it. No regrets! I hope that the product is still manufactured and it's not discontinued. Good Luck! :)

Yep, Schluter...they make an unbelievable variety - stainless, anodized aluminum, and many colors of shiny PVC. I don't think Lowe's or Depot stock anything thin enough to mate up with glass mosaic - it's all special-order. I personally would prefer something translucent for glass mosaic-tile edging, the more I think about it.
