We planned out our MB to include my husbands dream of a bathtub in a shower room.

We put in the tub as an alcove tub, surrounded by 3 walls (no deck). The contractor tiled the front face of the tub which in the shower space (he said the seam between the two tiled surfaces was more waterproof)

The plan was to put a piece of granite or quartz to cover the edges of the tub. The problem is that dimensions of the top of the tub seem to be too narrow for a granite or quartz piece- we've had two fabricators look at it (one in person and one via pics)

I asked my contractor about just putting a strip of tile to seal the seam on the front between the tile and tub and he didn't think that waterproof it.

What do you think

-Would tiling over the front be waterproof? Is it possible to do without looking really strange?

-Or what if the quartz top was thicker -1 1/4 inch like our shower sill- to make it more stable>

-Or if we opted for separate pieces of quartz vs cutting it out of one single piece, would that be better for the fabricators?

The edge widths are about: L under faucet (3 inch), back wall (1 3/4 inch), R (1 inch), Front (2 1/4 inch tub, 2 3/4 counting tub and tile)

Tub front needs to be waterproofed because its in the shower
