How do I accessorize my contemporary living room?

I'm decorating my living room, and was going for a an "Urban Modernist" look, with blue as the accent color. I've assembled the furniture, and painted an accent wall. Now I'm moving on to accessorizing, but don't know what to choose, or where to start. Would love to hear any advice.

I'm wondering about room arrangement, you focal wall is not showing to its best potential, your couch is not appreciated so close to the entrance and your large art could be more prominent. Have your tried placing the long sectional portion along the wall (and floor lamp will be better utilized and look better at corner of couch). Your white chairs would be facing the couch and I would add vintage posters (with blues) above the couch, to compliment wall and tie room together. I would move the tv to the other wall so it's not so prominent in room as you walk in and add floating shelves on one side and your floor accessories on the other. Place your lovely, large art on the blue wall - it will be more impactful and you could try lowering it just a touch.

Wow thanks guys, I agree, it needs more art. I like the idea of a cluster of pictures over the sofa wall, as well as a shelf unit over the tv.

Hey Maureen,

Thanks for the advice. I hope I understood it correctly. I rearranged the furniture based on what I thought you were suggesting(I didn't hang the picture yet, until I've decided). Is this what you meant?

The best place for the big art is over the big sofa. Then you'll need a long console and accessories for the blue wall. Lots of black and white accessories on the blue wall.

The tower of books? by the fireplace doesn't work in your minimalist room, sorry. It might work on the blue wall once you get other things over there.

Feels off, having the tv on one end of the room and the fireplace on the other. This is a dilemma.

I'd put that tv on the same wall as fireplace and make it work somehow.

I think this new arrangement looks really good as you enter the room and your art/blue wall is a real focus and seating arrangement is appreciated. Once you place art above the couch, that wall will feel complete. I don't think you need anything on the wall with the tv anymore, as that wall is smaller. Main thing though...do you like it? All the best.
