Depends where you are in the world. I can assure that it does not grow in spag or lava rock in its native habitat.

D. kingianum will literally grow in anything. I've put keikis in bark, rock, soil, sphag and they grow. As long as you can get culture right, they pretty much just... grow. Though, in my experience they grow best in a charcoal+bark mixture. They like to dry out fairly fast as they live off the side of granite, so I would go with a quick drying and draining mix unless you can manage sphag like a pro.

growing fine but did not bloom, using red lava rocks in a net pot it lots of air around the roots

Does not bloom is the usual problem (in unsuitable climates). Average minimum temp in the shade-house where it is growing is 7C (winter). Lows about 2 or 3 times a year 2 to 4C. It never snows.

Average Maximum temps winter temps 17C.

Plants get all day sun in winter through 50% Shade-Cloth.

Watered about once a week if no rain falls and the arid westerly wind in blowing.

Some clones never flower , the plant survives in nature by just growing keikis.

Does it have a clone name and is there evidence of past blooms?
