Drop down ceiling in basement before and after

When we purchased our new home which has a beautiful open basement living space we were told by our previous owner that he had "never" experienced water problems in the basement. Our first rainfall guess what happened, water running down the walls in the basement, so a lot of heartache and 40K later, to install a drainage system did not leave me with much money to remodel the space. Over the last eighteen months I have been painfully remodeling my house all by myself, luckily for me my father was a builder and so had taught me a little on how to remodel, but it is still a painstaking process and very much a learning curve for me. Here is a before and after picture of the hallway drop down ceiling in the basement. I wanted to make it appear rustic, please tell me what you think? Thanks guys

That's too bad it was such an ordeal and, yes, the beams do make it look a little more rustic.
