Can you tell me about your fabric ottoman. What type of fabric you have. Does it wear well? Can you post a picture? I am thinking about getting a fabric tufted ottoman but am hesitate about it.

I have an ottoman coffee table from Ethan Allen that we bought almost ten years ago. I don't know the fabric--it's kind of woven with the brown threads being a chenille and the colored threads maybe a nylon, so it has some texture. There's no wear except along the bottom where *somebody* likes to surf. I do love it--and the upholstery-destroying surfer.

I think your "somebody" looks very sweet! thank you may.

bump, some of you must have fabric ottoman

I just got one. It is like a velvet but I do not think it is really velvet. I love it. I have pets but given I have some various items on it they do not really ever get on it. I personally think it looks much more expensive than it really was. It has worn well so far!

    Hope this helps!

I have three ottomans in our primary home. One in our MBR, one in the LR, and one in the family room. The latter is leather, the other two are off white duck. Because of the infrequency of use the light color is not an issue.

We have a little stone house playhouse on our property and that has a light blue velvet ottoman.

I also have a fabric ottoman in our beachhouse, which is a print.

We have a golden who likes to lay under them. We tend not to wear shoes inside.

ETA: Oops, one more. I also have one in our pool area. Frankly I do not own any coffee tables at all. Much prefer a spot to put one's feet up, or extra seating. Can always use a tray if you need a flat surface. What is it that you are concerned about? You could always get one with a washable slipcover.

Mtn, I am drooling over here! You have so many fabulous homes. Your spaces are so beautiful!

Oh thanks, AKT, and you are one to talk! It's especially fun to see your gorgeous place come to life from the plans!

This is what I LOVE about this forum. I'm looking for a fabric ottoman too. We have a leather one but it is too small for the new LR and the metal edge coffee table is NOT working.

I was hesitant to repeat the tufted ottomans in the study and LR but thanks to Mtn's example no fear now! Now I just need to find a 4 foot square one.

    Love your houses Mtn.

Thanks, Missy. FYI the leather tufted ottoman in our familyroom is MGBW and it is not quite 48" sq; it is 43" sq

WOW, mtnrdedux, love your photos of your home, and everyone of those ottomans!

I was hesitant about fabric because of the cleaning. We have a leather tufted ottoman in our family room, which we have had 10 years and when I condition the leather on it once a year, there is definitely a bit of dirt there, even though we dont wear shoes in the house. I dont want a leather ottoman because there is already so much leather with the sectional.

atkillery, love that ottoman that you have, looks fab in your home. I am looking for a rich red, square one, never though of velvet, is that easy to clean? I dont know much about fabrics as you can tell.

Missy, I am looking for a square 40x40 red tufted ottoman. Have search the city I live in and the internet, but havent found the one. I am now considering have one custom done by Broyhill, this one but different fabric.

Thanks! ONe thought. If you like velvet, maybe microsuede? That cleans surprisingly well.

I dont like the look of suede. I owned a suede jacket back in the seventies and it showed every mark.

I don't have a photo, but I had one similar to AKT's, only in an ultrasuede-type fabric rather than velvet. It was apple green and I had it for ten years. I had to vacuum out the folds and tufting regularly to rid it of pet hair, but it always looked great. It looked good enough at age ten that I sold it on CL for, I think, $50.

thanks Shee. Now dont laugh but this sort of my inspiration for the red ottoman. I know, I know, I dont have any of these same great features in my room and this one is orange, but I love the pop of color in the middle and smaller bits of it in the room. Some of my family members have tried to persuade me in another direction, like a glass top coffee table, but in my mind and heart I can see a beautiful rich red tufted ottoman...call me crazy!

I chuckled reading that. Nah, not crazy. I see why you're drawn to it. I've saved inspiration photos of rooms that aren't my style, but I loved something specific about it or it had a certain 'feel'.

The ottoman is nice, classic even. The room is something else. Mostly confused about ingress and egress for the beds to the left ...

mtn, I never noticed that, my eyes were drawn to the ottoman, but how do you get in and out of those beds!

There's a path behind the sofa, no? It continues to the left from where that lambskin is.

I think you are right nosoccermom, there must be a ladder there....good eye!

I'm still wondering what the circles are up by the rafters in the middle. Are they ropes to rappel down the beds?

oops, I thought you were talking about the bottom bed. I think you climb up the stones to the upper beds, looks like there are footholds. There's a picture of the same room without the round thingies by the rafters.

stone footholds? They may actually be ropes!

I mean you climb up that stack of stones, which is why the bed opening of the uppers is left and right, respectively.

Rose - I will be interested in what you end up doing. I am considering a cocktail ottoman as well. I have always had tables but feel the need for a more comfy option. Am looking at either leather or some sort of outdoor fabric. Have also seen some gorgeous kilim ottomans online but not many sources for large cocktail ottomans so far. Good luck!

Thanks Ruby, will keep you posted.

I've been wondering how hard it could be to make a Kilim ottoman myself from an old ottoman or even coffee table.

Fwiw, I wanted my upholsterer to do this and she said her machine could not sew rugs.

I had that fleeting thought myself nosoccermom but my track record as a DIY'er is very poor. I saw that CR Laine used to have some but they don't seem to carry them currently.
