You have a "traveler" that is from further up north. He or she is not quite large enough to migrate and is very happy to of found your feeder. Once stoked up, it will move on further south. Everything at my house last year left in October, but in 2013 I had one until January 9th. It left just before a major cold front moved in a couple of days later. The big group leaves here in late August to early September and most of the rest leave sometime in October. The weather has warmed up a lot and part of the gulf coast around Mobile, AL and the Mississippi and Louisiana coast as well as Florida, sometimes they stay all year. Keep your feeders up for two weeks until you haven't seen a bird. Contrary to the old tale from years ago, they will not stay too long.

My huge gang of hummers left the last of September, but I still have 1 hanging around this morning. I am going to take the extra feeders down and just fill the main one today. Do you still have yours hanging around?

My daughter saw one Thursday, which she swears was a different one. Maybe two hung around. It is bad wether here in NC, cold, windy and rainy so I am hoping they are safe. That is a good idea about dropping down to one feeder. Will do the same.

We saw two this morning. One on 1 feeder and one on a second feeder. They were both sitting at the same time. I think I will go ahead and leave two up and take the other one down. Hope you don't have too much rain and flooding. It is cool and rainy here also, but nothing like the east coast.

My last bird was October 13th this year. That is very early. I hope that it not a sign of a really bad winter.

it's january 5th in hood river, oregon - we have 3 hummingbirds still. Will they migrate ever?

They may stay. The year I had one stay into January, I kept two feeders going. One outside and one inside so I could swap in the morning. The frozen one I brought in to thaw. I would put out at dawn.

In Hood River, overwintering hummers are likely to be Anna's - and they no longer migrate but are year round residents. They are common all up and down the west coast.
