Antique Chandelier Question

Hi, I purchased this chandelier but I'm having a really tough time finding out more about it. Does anyone know the approximate age, style, value? Any help would be appreciated! It's 46" high, 27" wide and it has glass, rock crystal and amethyst full pear shaped crystals (4") and it has 15 lights. I don't know if it's brass, bronze or another type of metal.

Looks like someone took a basic nice old chandelier that was missing most of the crystal drops and just hung what they found. Never have seen a chandelier with different colored drops, and some that are cup and some that are not.

1900-1930s chandelier that has been covered in various dangly things recently.

Looks to be French, most likely circa 1920s. I'd assume it's bronze based on the coloring and detail. You have some cut glass, leaded crystal, rock crystal, Amethyst and smokey quartz hanging on the chandelier. Definitely an assortment. Not sure what Lindac92 is talking about - many chandeliers, both antique and contemporary, incorporate semi precious stones such as quartz and amethyst. Overall nice find. Depending on condition, it could be worth anywhere from $5k-15k in a retail setting.

French??? Really? What is your clue?? Tell us what is the difference, as you know it, between cut glass, leaded glass, (really leaded glass in a chandelier??Really??)And rock crystal?
    5K??? you first!

Linda, you're not worth my time or energy, but here we go. Cut glass and lead crystal are both made from glass, but lead crystal contains an extra material that enhances the brilliance of the glass. Lead glass is usually of higher value than cut glass, and requires a bit more attention when cleaning. When I say Rock Crystal I'm speaking of transparent quartz, typically in the form of colorless hexagonal crystals. Pendeloques are typically french, as is the form of this particular fixture.

    Imhappy... Great advice. Thank you.

To my untrained eye the chandelier appears no fancier (or expensive) than the usual, can be found anywhere, brass chandelier with a few colored prisms. But, hey, whatever floats your boat....like a poster above said "if you like it, hang it".

Wowser!!....."Not worth my time or energy"......
Since people reading this forum want truth....and since I know something about glass....
Cut glass is made from lead crystal, which is just glass which has up to 40% lead added as a flux (that's glassmaker's term for a substance that makes the glass flow and keeps it clear). It takes no more attention when cleaning than cut glass....perhaps less because due to the cutting, cut glass is fragile and easily chipped. Cut glass is made from lead glass....same thing, but embellished with a cutting wheel. And the term "leaded glass" refers to glass, as in a window, that has lead came between the lights.
Rock crystal is, indeed a semi precious gemstone, as are amethyst and smoky quartz.
The term "pendalogue" (notice...it's spelled with a 'g' not 'q') describes most often a certain shaped pendant..not a prism, a flat drop with scalloped edges.
I have seen amethyst colored drops on a lighting fixture, but they were usually faceted.
I have seen all these things on a chandeliere, but never all at once on the same fixture, and never such a variance in clarity and inclusions in the rock crystals.
I suspect both the OP and apricozzi are dealers touting their wares. Notice in the first set of pictures, everything in the picture has a price tag on it.

"I suspect both the OP and apricozzi are dealers touting their wares. Notice in the first set of pictures, everything in the picture has a price tag on it." Linda, first, I don't know this person but was trying to be helpful. I am not a dealer. Second, if you knew how to read, you'd see that the OP said they just purchased the chandelier - so any person with half a brain would assume that the photo was taken when purchasing the fixture. Third, your original comment said you had never seen a chandelier with different colored drops. Now you're changing to say that you have, but only faceted. Get it together, Linda.

I have a question for the OP. In the second pic there are sconces on the wall. Was it your understanding that they matched the chandelier?

No, I know that the sconces are different.

Wow! Looks like Cinderella and Prince Charming's dining room!

    Thanks Iamhappy!
    It's actually an office.

AP. I would let it go. She can do some damage

    Nice statue, gamachej.

    Thank you!

Looks great!!....If you are happy....and it looks good where you put it, what does it matter what it's worth, what style it is or how old it is?? If all the drops are original to the piece of if it's French or Austrian...or if it made up of drops from many other chandeliers...If you are happy with what you paid and how it looks, that's all that matters.

I bet I would NEVER have reason to visit that office!

I certainly would love to be a guest in his/her office! Beautiful.

I love the chandelier no matter what you paid or what it is worth. :)

What a beautiful office! Is this in your home at your work office? And is that an Oscar?

    skydiv2389 - I don't get it...Is that a photo of Linda?

gamachej, absolutely beautiful office and you have good taste. Can you tell us what you paid for the chandelier, what part of the country do you live in?

The chandelier pictured is not the same chandelier pictured in the dining room with the sconces on the wall.
As I said earlier, we have a dealer showing his wares....or someone who just likes to post pictures of sparkley stuff hanging.

Looks like the same room (office, not a DR) to me with a different chandelier. Perhaps the 4 squares of photos were taken at an earlier time before the new chandelier was added. ;) Take a look at the sofa, the desk in the background (with candles)...they are the same. The flowers in the center of the room are different, so photo taken at a different time.

The 4 pictures in the office are the same room....scroll up to the picture of supposedly the same chandelier in a dining room....that's different.

Re-read what I wrote. ;) That office and "dining room" ARE the same room. That's not a dining room. It's a study with a desk at one end and a seating group at the other. Same furniture and accessories in both. The 4 photos show a chandelier that must have been replaced with the antique shown in the large photo.

And I just realized that I am on the Antique forum. haha Thought I was on the Decorating forum.

Linda, you should take some time to read before commenting. No where in the OP or any thereafter does this person say the chandelier is in their dining room. nhb22 is correct, it's clear that when the OP asked the question, they said they had just purchased the chandelier - so it would make sense that the first photo showed it hanging in the current room and the set of 4 photos shows what must have been hanging there before. In my opinion, the (new) antique chandelier looks better than the original one. Linda, these forums are supposed to be a nice, welcoming place for people to come to without being harassed by someone like you - stop saying the OP (and myself) are "dealers" and that the OP is just trying to show sparkly stuff hanging. You're a nasty person.

Gamachej, No matter what the chandelier's provenance, its age or materials, I have to say that the chandelier, and indeed the entire room, are absolutely lovely-- cute "pooch", too.
