I definitely prefer smaller and functional bathrooms. I'm lucky to have two full bathrooms in my house. The downstairs one has a small shower and the upstairs has a shower/tub combination. I love the very small downstairs bath with the small shower. Easy to clean and maintain and keeps clutter to a minimum. I don't have hair products or makeup so it's easy for me to have a small space.
I do think having one bathroom in the house with a bathtub is ideal. I don't take baths very often but sometimes there's just no replacement for a long soak.
I think bathrooms are a great place to go more dramatic. It's not a place I spend overly much time in so it can be more wow. I'm planning to paint the small downstairs bathroom high gloss black.

I like when there are cool lighting choices in bathrooms as well. I can't wait to replace the boring lights in both my bathrooms. The chandelier in the picture you posted is really cool and I think it's a great way to make a bathroom prettier and no less funtional.
