Oh dear. Now I am lusting after Radio Times. Gorgeous photos.

Has anyone in CA grown The Alnwick Rose, aka Alnwick Castle, for more than 4 years? I've read that it is a shorter Austin and would like to verify its mature height.

OMG! Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!! SWEET JULIET and CARDING MILL... yum yum!! And I'm ticked that my PRINCESS ALEXANDRA was the wrong rose, and is now dying. Gotta replace it with the real one!! Yours is just delicious!!

Irisgal RT is beautiful! My canes want to fall over so hoping to put it in a pillar for next year. Alnwick is one of my most favorite roses. Looooove her fragrance. It gets about 41/2 ft tall for me and about 2 ft wide maybe a little more.

I love them too Beth. PAOK is really a deep pink right now with cooler temps. Hope when I move the azaleas that tower over her she will bloom better.

If The Alnwick Rose is 4.5 ft. for you with a cold winter compared to ours, I wonder what height in Calif. zone9?

I know I'm not much help because my Alnwick and Carding mill are only a year old. I am in S CA zone 10a. They are growing like gangbusters however. I hope they don't outgrow their spaces. Cardingmill already pumps out the flowers I spite of our terrible heat. Alnwick only one beautiful bloom so far. I'm going to keep an eye on yours and see how they grow compared to mine. I really don't want them to be big monsters. The more space I have the more roses I can grow:). Do you find that your Austin blooms last long in the vase? Mine sure don't. And that's with the A/C full blast. They only last a day or two. How about yours?

Lisa, I have the same problem with Austins. I brought a few buds of Chaucer and Lordly Oberon ( both superseded ) inside on Monday and they opened and blew within 48 hours.

Too bad. I love them but I plant my roses for picking, so no more Austins for me. I did just order Cream Abundance, and Cream Veranda. Oh and Irish cream. Hope they will be better for cut flowers.

Mine don't last long either but good gravy the two days they're they do are gorrrrgeous!! I do wish they'd last longer but have tons of others that last three or four days so no biggie for me. Carding Mill and Alnwick will last 4 or 5 days if you cut in the morning right when they start to open. Lisa Cream Abundance and Veranda last a long time too. You will love them. Judy

Judy, I'm glad to hear that the two I have coming will last in the vase. I cook for two elderly folks on Monday and Friday. I just want the flowers to last from Mon to Fri. I don't want them to have to deal with a mess of dead flowers. So now I am looking for flowers that please me on site( the way Austins do) but make longer lasting cut flowers. Don't get me wrong, I love my Austins but they are disappointing cut

They are all so beautiful! I too am jealous of your Alnwick. I do have to forgive mine as he is on his own root and is only a year old for me. He puts out tiny one inch blooms that blow in a day. Nothing like the ones I see in pictures. I am hoping they will get better as he matures and as we stop getting days in the mid 90's. We have at least another week of those temps. How old is your Alnwick?

Thanks y'all!! I absolutely love my Alnwick. My oldest bush of Alnwick is prob 3 if not 4 yrs old. It's always stood up nice and straight with a few stragglers now and then that want to flop to the side but not many. It mainly wants to bloom at the top like my Queen of Sweden. I purchased quite a few more this year from David Austin and they are staying straight too but still short like maybe 2-21/2 ft tall. They've bloomed fairly well for new plants. The new ones are in a bed that gets lots more sun so hoping they will bloom over the whole bush if I prune them diff heights. I'm not really sure how it would do on a column Carol. When I get back home in a few days I will check the canes to see how limber they are. Thanks again !! Judy

The canes on mine are VERY limber. It looks like a climber to me. Maybe I got a climbing version??? I'll see how it does next year. :)

Carol, the canes on my Alnwick are very limber so far too. I would also like to twirl the limbs around my wrought iron thingy. For the life of me I can't remember what it's called. It's about 4 feet tall and is shaped like a skinny four-legged pyramid. Hoping to wrap the long side shoots around it like a barber shop pole. I hope it will work. Most of my David Austins grow twice as large as the catalogues say. (Zone 10a, So CA)

Judy, your arrangements are some of the prettiest ever. Thank you for sharing. I've gone back to enjoy them several times already! I can't wait until I have enough to share,as well.

Thank you Lisa. I can't wait to see your all your new beauties. I have several I have to put in pillars too. Not sure if that's the word you're trying to remember. I'm thinking my Alnwick is prob limber too. I'm trying to swirl my Abe's around my gazebo legs too but the loser canes aren't very limber. Hope to play with it more next spring. Thanks again, Judy
