If you have not already done so, dig your sweet potatoes now before they frost which looks like it could happen this week end. If they have already been frosted dig them anyway and use them up, since they probably won't keep, but might still be good for immediate cooking and eating. Ornamental sweet potato vines may also have potatoes, but they generally are not good eating quality, although they may well keep for starting your own ornamentals next spring.

I got three nice potatoes from my one Beauregard planted last spring. I meant to plant more but health problems got in the way. The one I planted was a spindly little nursery pot I got a Bachman's on a whim. These I will try to keep to start my own slips next spring.

I was in the garden laying out my garlic patch this morning and noticed that I had forgotten all about the one plant. So I dug it and it had the three really nice plump spuds under it. I can't say I paid all that much attention to that one plant all summer either; so I am tickled just to get anything.

Glads should be dug by now, too.
