Hi Bob I wasn't able to locate that species of seed checking my recent resources. I have been buying Pachy seeds from eBay and having some mixed results. This will be a very interesting experiment if you are able to locate the specific species.

I've seen patchy seeds on ebay before but only mixed ones. the person who sells them though says to ask they may have other types of seeds that I might be looking for. I should inquire about some decaryi seeds to them. the only patchy I am really interested in is decaryi because it has little or no spines from what I can tell in the pictures. out of africa has a few right now I may purchase one so I can try to breed it with an adenium but it's getting cold here in 9b and am thinking of obtaining one in spring if I can so I don't have to watch it sit dormant all winter.

Bob there is a seller on eBay named Kevin Spears (cartbarnpro) that sells a variety of Pachy seeds for a decent price. About $3 for 20 seeds. I had some that didn't germinate and he is replacing those. Pachy seeds have a lower germination rate overall than say Adenium.

Yeah I heard that they like light to germinate and that decaryi can take something like 30-180 days to germinate. I will check him out thank you!

My goodness that is a long range to wait! By day 30 I am throwing out the media having given up. I have had some good fortune with P. lamerii and P. saundersii seedlings. I just took them out of their seed trays today and put them into individual containers.

There was a fella out of California that was selling many of the species. I had purchased a number a quite a few years ago. Had very good germination with them. I believe the last name was Spears?

Same guy, Rick. Kevin Spears sells by the name of Cartbarnpro on eBay. Only he is out of Texas.

I have had luck getting P. decaryi from Thierry Alberto, who runs the nursery Le Jardin Naturel (baobabs.com). I will note that he's based on Reunion, so is not local to the US, but I had no troubles importing numerous seeds (P. ambongense, P. baronii, Adenium multiflorum, P. decaryi, A. somalense, and Dorstenia gigas) from him to Vancouver, Canada. I only had 1 of the 4 seeds P. decaryi germinate in the end (but had multiple seeds germinate for all the other species), and it is still growing strong.

I've had hit or miss luck with Kevin Spears' seeds - 21 of 23 P. geayi germinated, 3 of 31 P. meridionale, 3 of 24 P. mikea, and 6 of 6 true A. socotranum. But I've had none of the P. eburneum (31 seeds), P. brevicalyx (29), P. horombense (22), P. cactipes (28), P. densiflorum (47 - I only ordered 20 - he was very generous), P. baronii (23), or P. lamerii (21) thus far. I ordered all those seeds in August and planted them at the beginning of September. As it has been less than a month I haven't given up hope on them yet. Though if there is nothing up by the middle of this month I'll contact Kevin to see if he has any advice or can do anything for me.

Here's a picture of my ~7 month old P. decaryi. Apart from the occasional photo op, it currently lives under my LED grow light with the rest of my collection.

Alex, I am familiar with Baobab.com I wasn't sure if they shipped to the united states. I will check their site out too. I am also looking for some A. multiflorum seeds.

Very nice P. decaryi seedling you have shared there Alex. My experience with Pachy seeds has also been hit and miss. I was able to germinate the P. lamerii with success but the other 4 species were reluctant to germinate(P. eburneum , P. brevicalyx, P. horombense, and P. cactipes). The good news is that I did contact Kevin and he is replacing those that didn't germinate.

I will have to look at Baobab.com and see what they offer. Thanks for the tip!
