Is there a design/decorating law in regards to using mismatched rugs in the same room? I have a dark stripe sofa, beautiful oak hard wood floors, but want to make living room more warm and inviting. I can't afford a "large" (the room is huge) rug. But was thinking I could find smaller, 8X10 rugs of various textures, colors and motifs and lay they them down in the center of the room (leaving an open area in the very center).......they would over lap and radiate out from the center.....is that a crazy idea? Thought a large ottoman could go in the very center. I like color and textures, don't mind if things don't match. The house is an older home, built in the 30"s or 40's.
