Decorating HELP!!!

I have a lot of house decorating and shopping to do!! I love modern rustic mix and transitional styles. I also like preppy styles but sometimes it can come off too feminine. Anyways here is how my house looks right now....
I am shopping for a coffee table, chairs, kitchen table, dining table chairs, a backsplash for the kitchen, curtains for the great room and artwork for above the built-ins that are not quite finished. I would love any help, thoughts, suggestions, or ideas as I don't pride myself in decorating!!

I would shop first for two large pieces of artwork to place in the spaces above the bookcases. Perhaps the artwork could be the same size with compatible/ coordinating colors. Then I would use those accent colors as a guide for selecting accessories such as pillows, throws, and bowls or vases. You may want to consider some printed fabrics for the pillows since there are no patterns in the room, at the moment. Finally, books and other objects for the bookshelves. Oh, yes, panels at the windows should help soften the room as well. Lovely space!

For a coffee table, you might like something with a glass top and wood/wood painted legs. For the kitchen backsplash, a black and white patterned tile would look nice.

What a lovely home. I would suggest photo ledges for above the built ins....the new way to photo gallery. Use photos of you kiddo and pretty soon their art work. Because of your child's age, I see the high chair, I would look for a coffee table more child friendly. Maybe round, maybe soft.

P.S. I would leave the tops of the bookcases empty.

P.P.S. You need an end table with a lamp on it between the sofa and love seat.

You have a lovely home! Floor to ceiling sheers to soften the bright light from the window would be nice. These could be in an off white with some texture but I would keep it simple. A narrow sofa table for the back of you large sofa would improve the view from the dining room and give you a surface for lamps and accessories.

Sometimes I wonder if shows like HGTV get us to think that decorating a house or checking off a long list like your spread through the house can be done in 30 minutes! Smile. You could start an Idea Book on Houzz. Post many photos to help you see what you tend to gravitate to. Then keep you eye open for that DR chair or piece of art work. Tackle projects like curtains for privacy now but keep an eye out when you go to TJ Maxx for items for book cases. It will all come together!

Agree with Bea Parker - find artworks you love first - they are the most personal expression of your style. Online galleries such as ours offer custom sizing so the artwork you love can be made to fit the space perfectly. Fabulous home you have!
