Bifolding vs Lift and Slide

I'm replacing a set of French doors with sidelights with either 3-door bifolding doors or lift and slide (into wall). Any advice as to which is better? Advantages and disadvantages to consider. Also my husband would prefer real wood that can be stained. Is that possible on bifolding or lift and slide? Who is best manufacturer of these?
