OK. There is a member here whose name is "PC". He gardens somewhere near Orland I think. He is a very knowledgeable and experienced gardener and a major contributor in this forum. So, anyway, you have two seasons: Winter and Summer. It is too late prolly for winter season but get ready for summer season shortly.

Watch out for whiteflies, that's all I have to say.

Since Florida soil are quit sandy as well, it would be good to add lots of organic matters back, so compost and mulching. I find the best time to transplant the seedlings in early spring like Feb if it's not too cold. Then you harvest in late April and May, which by that time it's moth season and with rain brings the shield bugs. If you are going to grow in summer, you have to transplant them early before it gets too hot. This late summer is the worst because it's been raining everyday which brings in the fungus and whiteflies. Once you have whiteflies infestation you're done, unless you grow inside. It's good to have ladybugs which help with controlling whiteflies. Lots of diseases down here brought in by the wind.

Agree with Max. With predominately sand for soil, use huge amounts of OM. Huge! Also prepare to be surprised at how big of an impact unrelenting humidity can play.
