Need help with garden weeds

I recently bought a house and started to build a single storey extension, other commitments placed a stop on the project and within a few months there are a large number of weeds adjacent to the extension. Does anyone know what kind of weed this is (tall ones in the picture) and how best to remove them?

    I am going to guess Tas is in the UK. The taller weeds are suckers from plum/damson trees which are either in the OP's garden or the neighbour's garden or have been cut down previously. If Tas is in the North Damson is a good bet. The smaller five leaved creeping weed in the foreground is Potentilla reptans, Creeping Cinquefoil.
