We've been spotting them every day. It's been awesome and I'm writing on the calendar the days we see them. It's going to be real sad when they're gone.

I've been keeping my feeder filled however the bees have discovered it and even with the bee guards are swarming it (I suppose they like the higher 3:1 nectar content). Now I'm not so sure if I'm going to keep it filled or not. My friend in OKC is having the same problem.

There's so many hummingbird flowers out this time of year, might not hurt to take the feeders down. This is the wasp season here, too, and the bees are everywhere. I was astonished to see the salvia just take off in September, also the red lobelia.

Do you have any idea why the Downy Woodpecker after greedily slurping the solution in early summer just suddenly stopped coming, around August, I think? I was hoping he would keep coming.

Ha! I saw one Downy try to get on the cheapy feeder from Lowe's when I first put it out but it looks like the cheap one is not sturdy enough to hold them like the glass one. Maybe I should switch them out to see if I can get those cuties back? I do miss seeing them and it might help cut down on the bees. :)

I'm in central California. December 12. My hummers never leave. They change in numbers but always have some coming to the feeders daily.

Robert, if you figure out how to get the downs back, please post. I love them, enjoyed seeing them in the early summer. I think I'll put some suet out for them in my office window.

Denise, you are solo lucky to have them year round. Enjoy them that extra little bit for me, please. :)

Suet should definitely help. Maybe I should refill the glass feeder for them and put it out on warm days?

I was shocked to see flowers on the Major Wheeler red honeysuckle in mid December! Who knows. Maybe we'll see hummers earlier next year? :)
