Bald cypress back-buds well. Try and get some roots with your collected tree. You can reduce the trunk to a baseball bat.

While BC will survive in standing water, they do better in bonsai soil that is watered regularly.

So is it better to go ahead and remove all the limbs? I have collected about 7 bald cypress so far and each has a good root ball but I left all the branches on some of them so I'm trying to find out if it's better to cut off all limbs? That's for the advice.

I grew mine in compacted sphagnum in standing water they seemed to develop the" knees" much sooner . I found they could be pruned almost anyway you wantt, Very hardy tree I started with seedlings fram a reforestation project though good luck gary

I have pruned 20 foot tall BC to a three foot tall baseball bat. Essentially a club with a small root ball.

Its up to to your carving-dremel skills how you carve the cut-trunk.
