The Norman office of the National Weather Service has issued a Red Fire Flag Warning for a significant portion of Oklahoma. This means that fire danger is very high to extreme for these areas. Additionally, a Wind Advisory or Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for some areas also included in the Red Flag Fire Warning Area.

On the page linked below, you will find the map that shows the Red Flag Fire Warning counties colored in bright pink. Click on any county to gets its forecast page. A link to the text of the Red Flag Fire Warning, Wind Advisory or Lake Wind Advisory can be found at the top of the forecast page for each affected county.

Any fires that do start today will be likely to exhibit extreme fire behavior and to spread quickly. Generally the Red Flag Fire Warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. but the timing of the strong winds may have caused slightly different timing for some areas. I only clicked on my county to read the text as it applied to me. In some areas, the winds may become dangerously high as early as 9 a.m. but for most of us the highest danger will occur in the afternoon.
