Planting bulbs in pots outside

I have just finished planting some narcissus outside and have some left. I don't really have a good place to force some indoors for spring flowering. Would the bulbs survive if I planted them in large pots and sunk them completely in to my veg garden? We have good snow cover in the winter but temps can go to -40 on occasion. Any ideas on this?

If sunk in the ground completely, and planted (in the pots) at recommended depths, they should be as insulated as the ones planted in the ground.
