It is two words Broad Band. Lovely, wish I had one.

I just looked this one up. Hosta Library says it's a Gus Krossa and Pete Ruh intro. Myhostas.be and the hostaregistrar.org say the same thing.
I hate to be so dense, but did Ron Livingston develop it? Is this another Paul Aden thing?

On further research, they are two different hosta. Krossa Broad Band is hard to find. It appears that only Van Wade has it. Broad Band by Livingston is available (according to their website) from In the Country, Glenbrook and Jim's. Both Hallson's and Naylor Creek are out. There may be other sources as well. I stopped looking after three hits.

Thanks all. I own the Livingston plant and it is a good one. I have seen it listed as two words and as one word. I guess only Ron Livingston can tell me authoritatively which is correct. The plant is aptly named since the margin is very wide. I suspect it cannot be registered as the name is too similar to the Gus Krossa plant. For now I will label my plant with two words since most catalogs list it that way.

his broad band.. was simply a wider band on one of the old species [or so they called it back then] .... plants ...

ron is this century ... and if i am not mistaken... all his stuff ... is hybridized ... rather than improved edges on old standards ...

you can find the old standard from which krossas was culled in the hosta library links .... i bet rons will be abc x xyz ..... a cross ...

It appears that Livingston is not big on registering plants. There are only 4 registered from him over very many years, and as ken said, none are sports.

On Ron's page on the FOoSF site he has it 'Broadband' one word. So if that's the one you have that is how I would mark it.

That is certainly definitive. Odd that the Hosta Library and Zilis in his 2014 Field Guide have it as two words.

If you are on the Hosta Pix list you could post a question about it there and Ron will respond. Ron is a very nice person and if you have his email he would be happy to respond that way too. As I look into it I think he started calling it with one word but maybe it changed to 2 words when it was put into production.

Me I like it as a one word name.

Yes, I have been by Gus's place in Livonia with my mother years ago but did not go in for a visit. Did not meet Gus in any hosta meetings or at my mother's garden as I don't remember him being active in the small circle of local hosta people at the time.

Just a note for those interested in saving the date, I have been invited by the Metro Detroit Hosta Society to speak next Feb 22, 2016 in Birmingham MI.

The meeting is at 7 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham, 1589 W. Maple Rd. Birmingham MI

Title will be "Pauline Banyai: The Hosta Lady - Revisited." Plan to show some of the video of my mother in her last years(the same one I have used at the Hosta College) and also bring an update on Gold Standard and its progeny.

Ron, just this morning posted a pic on Hostapix and has it spelled one word 'Broadband'

Mine growing rather strangely. Hope it adjusts next year. Ultimately will be a beauty.

Most likely Hosta BroadBand. These are two separate words.

If it's Livingstons Broad Band give it plenty of room, mines 6 feet across
