Surprise in the garden

Today when I was doing some garden cleanup I found a volunteer tomato plant. It was a yellow pear. I haven't had a yellow pear in the garden for 15+ years. Could the seed have lain dormant in the soil that long? Or do I have a mysterious gifter, maybe squirrels bringing a yellow pear from a neighbor's garden? The plant was small, spread out in two pieces with one ripe yellow pear and a cluster of several green ones.

Due to back surgery this area has been on its own since midsummer.

Interesting. But how do you it is a yellow pear ? Does it have fruits ?

Tomato seeds can stay viable (saved and stored properly) for decades. But to survive in the garden soil for 15 years sounds hard to believe.

Yes, it had one ripe yellow pear and several green ones. I expect the plant grew from a neighbor's fruit. Lots of young kids and squirrels around.

Nope, there are many better tasting tomatoes to grow in my limited space.
