Help not sure what style my powder room wants to be !

My house is all contemporary and now I am drawn towards restoration hardware style reclaimed oak look. I am trying to re do my powder room first cause I though that would be easy- change the toilet get a vanity change the paint and volia new look. But I am soooooooo lost. Attaching before pics of the blue kohler bathroom . Sink and toilet is all gone. Now what cant decide on vanity style mirror, paint. Please design gurus give me some guidance of what I should do. I am lost. Spend endless hrs browsing and are drawn to all kinds of pretty vanities but don't know how to make it work. Open to all suggestions,Everything in the room can go or stay - to keep scope of project small for now I would like to keep white tiles and we changed the toilet to be white. distance from door to nook in wall is 79" TIA

This would be cool with your ethnic art, but there are almost certainly cheaper options out there.

Thx I like that vanity - I don't mind spending the money if the vanity will be the focal point of the room and make me light up every time I walk in. I like the texture of the bottom but not sure about the top. Also it might be too small, That wall is 79" long so I am thinking I can go atleast 48 if not larger on vanity.

Also mirror and paint suggestions would be great . Art and mirror etc I am just moving around to get a feel for what I want so they are not a factor in the design. Do you think this mirror 46 x 36 that I am thinking is too big for room and right or wrong for decor ?

If you go this direction, you probably want a very simple mirror and a more neutral paint shade.

If you're attached to the more elaborate mirror shown in your last photo, then maybe you want a more transitional look, like a furniture-style vanity, like along these lines:

Here are 3 vanities from RH that would be great in your powder room. They are each about 56" long.

Thx, I have been leaning towards one form there. Just not sure how to tie it in to the toilet. White counter top and sink ? Any suggestions on paint color. I guess I can go with a reclaimed wood mirror.

Well the sink and the toilet will both be white. I believe the top is available in Carrara marble. That will work with your floor. What are you going to do for lighting? Will you just keep the downlights? I wouldn't do a distressed wood mirror. You will never get it to match the vanity. Do a mirror with a contrasting frame...........either metal or something different like bone. I know you don't have enough height to do this first mirror,.......but the mirror should be something really special.

I used an RH vanity on a project a few years back. Found a spectacular mirror to accent the vanity. With guest baths, you can be adventurous.

Here are 2 more mirrors to consider. The first is more rustic and could
work with the gray washed cabinet. The second is more contemporary.

Since it is a powder room and storage is not a big problem? I would head towards a less traditional look, as there are so many other options that could be fun and really interesting. Since you mentioned distressed wood and RH, you may be interested in an antique dresser or console with a lower shelf for wicker baskets. If you find something you love and it doesn't feel long enough, you can add a basket and place white towels inside. Wait to purchase mirror until you decide on the vanity (round mirrors are very attractive) and on opposite side add a large piece of art and a towel bar underneath. Go with light colored walls to keep it feeling contemporary and it works well with rustic/industrial also.

@ BeverlyFLADeziner So from RH I was considering this

also considering taking a side board like this from carte and Barell and re-purposing for plumbing vessel sink

@ maureen I like that large wood mantle counter top idea too, quite a statement piece and yes I don't need storage as its a powder room. Yes vanity first then mirror paint etc Love that blue round mirror look

There are some issues I believe with your selections. Here are dimensions of the items and these could be a problem. Are you wanting to use a vessel sink? Are you thinking about the exposed plumbing? Take a look and let's talk some more.

yeah, and you didn't even circle the height differences in a different color...

Thx need to think more about the exposed plumbing part. The 1st RH one above comes fully together the sink and countertop and open back so plumbling should not be an issue ? I was considering an oval vessel sink like below or this link

you are correct the crate and barell one may not be deep enough for any sink. on more reflection I am not liking the exposed plumbing so would have to be a closed vanity . another one from rh calling my name - oval sink shown above ? what counter top ? I like the clean top style on the russain reclaimed one with no backsplash.

Seeing the plumbing is often done, if you don't mind the look. Take a look at pictures to see if you are ok with the look, as it opens up more choices. The advantage of not using a heavier piece like the above is that the bathroom will feel more spacious.

Not sure if this is something you're considering but if you're trying to save money...

I just refinished my ornate gold mirror in a pewter finish and it was super cheap and I think turned out really well.

mirror looks nice - good work, I have another mirror in my stash that I can leave as is or match the finish on which ever vanity I choose, will this look nice in that weathered wash I am leaning towards ?

@ BeverlyFLADeziner from the 3 rh ones you showed me I like #1 the best but I see how that one looks more airy open hence spacious than the chest one I am looking at.

I found this picture of a powder room with a RH look. It might help you define what element styles you should be considering for your design desires.

I will depart from the other posts and give you my opinion and then you have to decide. A powder room should be the ONE room in the house that is OVER THE TOP. It should be the tiny room that you go all out to explore your decorating side. If you make a mistake, it is small enough to change later. If you like modern then go for a chic look. If you have always wanted to have a French Versailles room then go for it. But the powder room should be an expression of your whimsy and fantasy. It is the one room you can do ridiculous things in and everyone gets it. When you open the door to a powder room you should smile as it in the window to the decorating soul of the homeowner. Do not be safe, this is the room to experiment and take chances. The one faux pax to decorating a powder room is to be safe and boring.

@ bellburgmaggie Thx I like that thought, in reality going to a Rh style powder room is a departure from my current contemporary mid century modern look that I have surrounded myself with for the last many years. I am over it even though I love the clean lines of it. I am trying to go out of the box and put something in there that makes me smile when I enter. Hence even considering looking at $3000 vanity ( yikes thats what things cost now !) I will pay attention of what is over the top expression of what I my design. Here is a vanity I would love in my powder room not the wallpaper just the vanity- orange is my color lol

Powder Rooms are a great opportunity for some fun in your home that doesn't necessarily have to match the rest of the home - I love a great dark paint in a powder and even more, a fun wallpaper - something with a dark field and bright contrast and metallic. Totally agree with the comments above that it should be the over the top, stand out room in the home.

Aside from the difference in lengths, any of these RH vanities would be a fine selection. It's just personal preference for style. I would recommend either a vertical mirror or a round mirror for over your selection.

I like the red vanity you picked and even the wallpaper. RH is so been there and done that (my opinion). You may be able to find that piece or similar one at a second hand store, take it to an auto paint store and have them paint it porche red. I've never spent $4000 on a sink cabinet & don't plan to. There is too many really interesting alternative out there that you can drop a sink into. Go for it.

I'd love a colored vanity like the red one, really more my personality than the rh style. But it's not on the original website. Any ideas where I can get some or one with a similar feel. Open to all colors .
