I don't get the idea of wanting to see the kitchen from the living room and entry unless you are OCD on kitchen cleanliness and order and like to show that off to guests That's a lovely wall for some furniture and since you need a visual counter balance to your FP, put the book case where you have the sofa angled. Then move the sofa to that wall under the picture, and use the two little black storage hassocks as a coffee table for it. The rug needs to be much larger and have color and pattern to it. If you get new furniture, avoid loveseats. A 3-seat sofa and two chairs are the most flexible for arranging and rearranging. The straggling TV cords are ruining your FP look. I'd move the TV to the right wall between the FP and dining on a credenza that is 25% wider than the TV. Mounting them over the FP shortens their life, and if the cords can't be controlled it looks pretty tacky. When budget allows, I'd remove that mini mantel that is too close to the firebox and put a nice large one about where the bottom of the TV is now.

Thank you for your advice. One more thought would you put the TV and Credenza on the was with the cherry blossom picture. And maybe get a couch like in the pic with what kind of chairs to go with it? what do you think?

no its not the same wall. It's an L shaped living /dining room and we would like new furniture. It's hard to figure out the best layout that would work for us as we use this room a lot. Here are the pics again how it is now . Any ideas or pics are greatly appreciated Thanks

Is there enough space to put the TV to the right of the fireplace - maybe do a built in. Then you'd have a sofa in front of the window and another with it's back to the wall(but off the wall), where the cherry blossom picture is.

I have the same living room except I have a cut out so I can see my kitchen. I am also looking for ideas on how to arrange my furniture.

Have you tried putting your shorter couch facing the fire place? If you like it, then go for the sectional.

Take the time to measure your room, draw a layout, put the measurements on it. Include Windows, doors, wall openings. You can then post that here so we can play around with furniture layout options, or you can go to the Pottery Barn website, who have an easy to use free roomplanner tool so you can try out things yourself.

Over time, I've come to think that the most functional locations for TV and fireplace are on 2 walls that are perpendicular to each other. In the seating arrangement, figure that sofa faces TV and seating for two faces the other focal point, the fireplace. By shifting furniture a bit, you can probably add a recliner. ---This method isn't perfect, but isn't a bad way to narrow down options. Pardon this issue with HOUZZ.
