Consider a slate floor rather than the wood. The slate would marry the reds, yellows and the greys with ease. You can even do a combo of the wood and slate.

Bamboo doesn't work with the traditional style and feel of your home. It works better in a modern setting.

What is wrong with the kitchen floors now? They don't look like they need replacing.

Thank you for all of that input! We are painting and changing the backsplash - so it will look drastically different even apart from the flooring. But we have to put something down since what's actually there is a horrible 1960s vinyl which is glued to the original oak floors thus removing the option of sanding and staining.

The floor is laminate and it was damaged by water so it has since been removed. The dining room and kitchen are connected (we are removing the partial wall dividing them) which then connects to the hallway and the living room - so if I did slate it may look odd to just switch to wood in the dining/hall/living room? The bamboo we were considering isn't traditional bamboo but a hand scraped distressed look. I attached the two we were looking at.

The flooring that you are showing, looks so close in color to the vinyl, that it might not give you want you are looking for. You might need to go with a darker floor. Does Home Depot sell something that you can buy and then return.

One thing in the dining room--hang pictures lower. They're in a straight line with the top of the china cabinet. Never line up art with the top of windows or doors or other furniture.

Instead of trying to decorate the walls with your family photos think about making a hall gallery that you can add to over the years. It will be more at eye level for better viewing. Then add art to the walls in the main areas.

Replace artificial flowers with a live green plant.

Thank you. These photos are from before we bought the house. It was an elderly couple. I will take your advice as I start the decorating process. (We just got finished removing all the wall paper!) so in your opinion either of those floor options would be acceptable with the cherry cabinets? Thank you again so much for the help!

Before I picked any flooring I would replace the existing lighting in the kitchen with LED lighting to include under cabinet lights. Nothing will look right with the hideous cast of green that is emitted from that fluorescent light fixture. The other issue is there simply is not enough light in the kitchen. There is nothing wrong with your cherry cabinets, they are gorgeous. I would update the hardware, backsplash. Instead of bamboo, consider an engineered hand scrapped wide plank floor.

The bamboo has to be taken into the space, under the same LIGHTING CONDITIONS as what you will be living with (this is where bellburgmaggie's suggestion comes in). I'm affraid the "light" bamboo has too much green in it to work well with the cherry, and the mid-tone is going to offer the same "orange" as what you have. The darker one also has some green tones in it.

Neither one of these would be a choice I would offer to a client if I was helping with colours/tones. Bamboo is notorious to get stains to "work" so bamboo is going to limit possibilities.

I'm not a fan of low cost bamboo (anything less than $9/sf). It has a long and sordid history of being full of formaldehyde adhesives. It is also rather "unhappy" in kitchens. Not until you reach the high-end bamboo ($9+ per square foot) will it work well in kitchens. At that point, you may want to look at hardwood. Home Depot is not a place I would purchase bamboo from. The chance of having a floor filled with formaldehyde is very, very, very high.

You might not be interested in another vinyl, but on another post they are raving about, Karndean Van Gogh luxury vinyl flooring. I took a look and they look GOOD.
