What is the condition of your table? Would you like its natural tone if just clear over it?

The table has nice Danish Modern lines. I would be inclined to clear coat the wood if it is in good shape.

I looked into just clear coat, but table chipped and it not worth stripping

White would be a modern looking choice with your gray sofa and dark floors, but you could select any accent color.

Pretty modern table but a little too short for your sofa. Keep it simple and original looking.

Teal top with glass to protect. Natural legs.

Distressed black. It goes with everything. Another option, I would look into the Annie Sloan chalk paints, as recommended by @everdebz, to see if it's your style.

What is your color palette? I only see neutral here. The table has a nice shape. I'd find some colorful pillows for the sofa and then rustoleum spray paint the table one of those colors. Easy to change color at will. Go to houzz photos and look at painted furniture for ideas.

I think you might want to check what is under paint as many mid century pieces were teak or walnut. A teak or walnut table would cost about $500 and up today.

You could paint the lower half and strip the top which would be the easier to strip.

Thank you for all your suggestions- decided on dark eggplant/ new grey sofa and chair

Strip that thing. Some unappreciative philistine should never have painted it in the first place.
