Don't want to feed a marital disagreement, but I think the larger tiles work better. The smaller tiles detract from the granite pattern, which you want to showcase.

Hopefully, you have a window in the kitchen where you can decide on your tile color under natural light conditions. Then try out the color with kitchen lighting at night. It's probably the cabinet lighting and your paint, but your tile examples don't seem to pick up the more gold/tan background of your granite.

Use both. Use the larger ones as the field tile and the smaller ones as a deco line running through it. Tone on tone like that can work very well.

I think either would work fine, as Genevieve is demonstrating.

I love the effect in Genevieve's example, but another compromise might be to use the larger tiles under the cabinets and the smaller tiles above the stovetop where you have a larger area to showcase. Just a thought.

My tiler is my husband:/. He has experience, but what would you all recommend for grout color?

We use a prism grout, it has similar properties to the acrylic or epoxy grout, but looks more natural. The epoxy grout is much harder to work with, and can sometimes look like plastic once it is dried. I would only suggest your husband use it if you have seen an example of it installed and know you like it, and if he has had practice working with it. Our tile setters request a premium rate because the grout is very difficult to spread, and you have to work extremely fast. Just a word of caution! I agree that either tile will work, as long as you are using a color matching grout it will not detract from the beauty of the granite.

I hate to say it outloud but your husband is right. I agree with Washington Marble Works, both tiles will work as long as you are using matching grout. It really boils down to personal preference.

The granite is a busy pattern so you want the backsplash to not be as busy so I would definitely go with the larger tile
