Personally, (just my opinion of course), I don't force any seedling bulbs into dormancy. I let mine grow for as many years as they need to attain the size that you feel will produce a scape. After a number of years of growing as an evergreen which most all of them will do, if it has grown to a large enough size to bloom and hasn't yet, at that time you could force dormancy if you wish. I also don't cut mine or force dormancy until they have bloomed. And there are some bulbs that I grow as evergreens (H. Papilo, H. Jaguar, and some others) and allow them to bloom as they like.

I don't think an amaryllis needs to go dormant in order to bloom. Here south of Houston many winters we don't get a freeze and the amaryllis grow all winter. That never stops them from blooming.

Those us north the 'I' - I-70 - need to let them go dormant. We cannot let them stay out, or they'll catch cold and freeze and slime …. I let my seedlings grow for as long as they will still grow, bring them in da house and they get da light treatment until May.
