Appliance Shopping

For those of you with either complete kitchen remodels or new construction, I have a couple of questions about appliance shopping.

Did you buy all of your appliances at one place basically putting together a package or did you shop around purchasing where you found the best pricing? I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out if appliance dealers will cut better deals if you buy at one time and in one place.

Also did you do your shopping at B&M stores or online? Online seems to have better pricing but there is always the element of surprise upon installation of problems.

Thoughts please.

Generally you can usually cut a better deal if you buy at one time and in one place. I haven't bought yet---well not this go round. Last go round I did it this way--bought some floor models, some new stuff, all at once, one place and cut a deal. I dealt local-ish (nearby city, not my smaller town). I like to buy from B and M from a dealer I like. I wouldn't buy a car online either.

Local dealers will work with you but you can find better deals online. However, you then have the headache of installation, or having to return something that arrives damaged. I'm trying to decide which way to go, but think I will buy local.

I found 2 things -- YMMV --- everything current was cheaper by a large amount online and last year model local distributor mark downs beat online prices. From what I understand, if you want a price controlled brand, a distributor can give you other breaks -- installation, a free other brand something or other, etc.

In the last 2 months, I have purchased 30K (suggested retail not including taxes and delivery) for a bit less than 15K including tax and delivery. Some were online and some were last year's model mark downs from a local distributor. I had to return a smashed sink to Amazon. Easy because I refused the delivery. A local distributor and I had a few rounds getting the knobs for a range and an online store's discount wasn't initially what it should have been, but it is worked out now.

I would do it again to save any day.

We got the same price locally as was available online by buying all at one place (Pacific Sales). They gave us a deal on everything other than the built-in fridge, but the overall price for everything was as good as I found v

I had problems with three out of four appliances upon delivery/installation. I can't imagine the headaches I would have experienced had I purchased those appliances online.

There's at least one B&M store local to me that I'd have done better buying from the back of a stolen truck with bitcoin.

I ordered an oven from Pacific Sales/Best Buy and they were great after I received a truffle colored model instead of the normal one I wanted. (Who buys a brown oven?)

Most places will give you a decent deal if you buy more than one item. Some will meet online prices (Pac. Sales does, and they seem to be reasonably priced anyway). On my last kitchen, I was ready to purchase a pile of appliances from PS that they couldn't discount directly...but they were going to throw in a TV to sweeten it up.

Further to what Fori said, since PS couldn't give us a discount on the fridge (Thermador built-in), they instead discounted the dishwasher and hood to make up for it.
