In this space I think it is the only place to put the T.V.if you must have it in this space.I would finish the fireplace front to the ceiling with no mantle and T.V. above FP.

I like the gray. I guess you know that you will need to tilt your neck to watch the TV. It does look better without the moulding.

Thanks! It does make the wall feel a little bigger (ceiling taller) without the extraneous molding and I don't think the space loses much without it. Appreciate the food for thought...

I like the gray. Don't let the trim/molding dictate the TV mount. Tv's over fireplace is great we do it all the time. No neck ache complaints from our clients. The room could use crown molding as well. There also seems to be a lack of lighting. Can you add some recessed lighting?

Being a 1914 crafstman, all of the moulding adds a lot of the character and charm and although I'm looking forward to making some changes, I'm working to effectively blend those past/present. I agree on the crown moulding, the adjacent dining area has crown moulding and may be nice to carry that along with the beams throughout (see below - disregard furniture) and also add recessed lighting as well. Still leaning towards sliding the mantle that is resting on the brick down slightly to lower the tv mount position as much as possible.

Ben- You might want to reconsider taking the beams all the way across. Since you already have a low ceiling it will "bring it down" visually. But of course, it's your call. Good idea on the TV mount-that way you won't have any neck worries.

I realize this is not your furniture, but you might want to place your sofa perpendicular to the front door, facing the fireplace/TV; also lowering the top of the FP will be helpful for TV viewing. Look forward to seeing the results! Best of luck! Love your home!

I like this gray quite a bit. As presented, it appears to be a formal space. If you plan on using it in the same way, I wouldn't place a TV here.
