Sherwin williams vs Benjamin Moore?

Is there really a difference visually? Most houzz designers use Benjamin and my spouse wants sherwin. Somehow my eyes see a difference or is it partial to HouZz?
Help! I have to choose soon

Honestly I prefer Sherwin Williams Emerald. If you want to see a difference in paint check out Fine Paints of Europe or Farrow and Ball.

The professional painters that I have used in different cities in my stores and here in my home always tell me to get Benjamin Moore

Paint "excellence", is a function of impeccable preparation, and skill of application. Complexity of color is a function of tone and depth which can be achieved by a custom coloring tweak on almost any decent brand of paint and chip formula. You can make Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore or even Home Depot brand look like Farrow and Ball/Fine European........or you can make Farrow and Ball look like Home Depot....depending as above. Really. Emphasize impeccable above.

I've had really good experiences with Sherwin Williams ProGreen 200. Its expensive, but covers well.

However, as somebody else said, take the time to do it right. Id rather have cheap paint applied well than expensive paint applied poorly. There's nothing worse than paint on the ceiling or woodwork. Hold the edge on your wall off the ceiling a 16th or so. It makes painting much easier, and creates a very crisp look.

I always use Sherwin Williams Emerald. The finish is beautiful and it washes and wears well. As mentioned above, proper preparation and application are key.

I prefer Benjamin Moore aura...can paint with excellent coverage and sleep in the room the same day.

Never sleep in any room the day you paint it. There are still chemicals in the air whether you smell them or not.

Big fan of SW Promar 200.

It all depends what your skill level is. People ask who painted for me. I tell them I did, and they ask me to come do their house. Im slower than a pro, for sure, but the finished product is just as good, and maybe better depending who you hire.

I can't believe how many guys spray in new construction. Unless you roll over it, spraying is the least desirable way to apply paint, but its fast and cheap, so nobody cares.

I far prefer BM to SW (both for performance and hue) but an excellent painter and careful prep work is way more important. That said, understand that different brands/lines are good at different things like hide, durability, washability etc. (btw, none of those three properties would make ya choose F&B )...and NO, you can't make that SW paint exactly match a FB paint. The base won't let you. Unless you are painting for someone colorblind in a north aspect room with one clerestory window and a 20W bulb for illumination.

edit to add: I have used many brands of paint. Sometimes painting myself, more often hiring a pro. When something has to be absolutely perfect, then Hubs takes over the chore.
