I have never read anything about ground hugging plants not being attractive as nectar plants for the hummers but I grow Fort Hills creeping phlox and I've never noticed my hummingbirds nectar from it. Come to think of it, I'm not certain the hummers are even active in my area when my creeping phlox is in bloom. Also, if your plant is anything like mine, it will only bloom for about 2-3 weeks in early spring. Even if the little hummers don't feed from them, they should put on a lovely show for you.

One of my biggest hummingbird draws is an inexpensive annual, Salvia coccinea "Lady in Red" aka Texas Sage. It will freeze out during winter but easily reseeds itself each year.

Thank you Mary, that is good to know. I think I will try them at least. They're really pretty. I have one Red Salvia, but not sure of the name. This is my first attempt at planting a fall garden. I want to have something ready the Hummers next Spring. I'm trying to put something in for each season. I am out of time for this year though as it is down into the 20's at night here. The phlox was my last purchase for now.
