Thats not bad - our official weather is the measured at the airport which is 15 miles SW from here and 500 feet lower so we're often warmer (the cold air slips off the mesas and down to the airport) - they had 24º this morning, and while I had frost on the lawn, the potted basil 5 feet away on the patio is still good.

Interesting observations. One potted cherry tomato here took 3 or 4 nights at freezing without damage, so that spot must be a few degrees warmer.

I picked up a Deodar cedar cheap this summer, tag said zone 5. It was an an impulse purchase, it just grabbed me when I saw it. When I got home I researched it. It's a zone 7 plant. What? Oops! It's not quite right to use inside as a Xmas tree so I gave some thought as to where the warmest spot outside would be. I settled on the south side of the house, with some wind protection. I'll stack some hay bales on the northwest side for a bit more buffering, but I still don't think this tree stands a chance. I'll take pictures of it and decorate it for Xmas, so it's not a total waste.

Original provenance of Cedrus deodara is in the western Himalaya, and some domesticated vars. are still cold-hardy. But most grown in US are for southern zones. Beautiful tree where adapted and skyline landmark in California with the nodding top, one of my favorites. Fun experiment here!

Still not much frost here in south Aurora. We had a minor one about a week ago. The backyard got it worst I think because it's enclosed with a 6 foot fence and tends to collect cold air and it doesn't blow out. The front yard seemed just fine.

The garden up in Westminster still hasn't got frosted and peppers and tomatoes are still going strong though the basil called it quits about a week ago. That property is on high ground and not much in the way of fences.
