I have used 2 methods-plate hangers- the wire hoochie-bobbers that clamp around the edge of the plate, and epoxy with a d ring. 2 part epoxy, d ring glued into it. I have used that method to hang heavy tiles as well, they have been hanging for years. I think I have seen people use the lead came, I just dont do that so Ive not tried. and if you have a BIG plate, you can easily make your own plate hanger if you look at how the smaller ones are made. I love usng microwave plates and candle plates for GOG.

I have done two of these microwave plates and one sits on a plate stand in the bay window and the other is at our daughters. It hangs in a kitchen window. I put on one of those metal plate hanger "thing a ma doodles" and then on the window we used a 3M hanger of the appropriate weight category and they have never had any trouble. The 3M hook is a transparent one and you can not see it from the right side of the plate unless you put your nose on the plate and stare. And I feel that anyone who looks that close deserves to find something!
