i am seriously considering the faux B&B treatment for my dining room as well. I already have a chair rail and would need to install the battens only. just curious - do you walls have any texture on them? mine have only a slight texture and i'm wondering how this would look with a semi-gloss paint (since glossier paint = more shadow).

    I live on the west coast and have the knock down texture that's so common here. I used a semi-gloss paint because I wanted it to match the existing trim work throughout the house. The light plays on the texture and can be seen less than other times but overall I love the look! If you look at some pictures of homes in the 20s-40s they had texture, wallpaper and different colors between the battens. I attached a close up so you can see.

      this looks fantastic! I'm about to tackle a similar project. I'm wondering how high your ceilings are so that I can get an idea of how high to place the board and batten. You seem to have picked a good ratio visually! Thanks!

      Hi Beth, I know this is months later but I never noticed your question until now. Those ceilings were 9'. I placed the chair railing about 2/3 the way up. I thought it would be a good ratio and I was very pleased with it. Not sure if you have tackled your project yet. If so, I hope it turned out great!
