Ironically, I was thinking 7/9/10 and tibbrix posted almost the same thing! But make mine, beach with rustic farmhouse thrown in. Velvet and Linen's front page photo is my ideal wish in my head for my home. Alas, I live in the Southeast, not the West Coast.

I like so many...and that's why it's hard for me to make decisions!!

I believe I'm a mix of Traditional, Farmhouse and French Country with a side of contemporary.

Reverse order of Outsideplaying 8 + some 2. Usually if I take one of those quizzes. It comes out almost even between all styles with leaning toward Craftsman.

#8 Craftsman. Have lived in Craftsman homes--original ones circa 1910-1920s--all my life. They are ubiquitous here.

2, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11 (Yard sale/craigslist.homemade). The new house is somewhat Craftsman, but our antiques range from Colonial to MCM, and everything in between.

#2 seems like such a cop out. Eclectic what? My mom says that's my style, but I would say #11....something else. Old world, woodland cottage, fairy tale style, with a good helping of vintage. Plus lots of antiques and CL/Goodwill finds.

Go on ebay and look up 'art deco' items. They seem to call EVERYTHING 'art deco' these days!

Mmm, #11, something else.......Art Nouveau meets English Arts & Crafts (I'm in the UK) with a side order of 19th century eclectic!

Pal thank you so much for that!!! I had prepared definitions for each term but brief exclamations won't do. Plus, I am not qualified to explain. In the end, how should I tally this up? I was thinking of adding everyone's sub catagory into the full tally.

Pal, can I copy and past what you wrote to the original post above with your name added?

Sort of a hijack - but what is the difference between contemporary and modern? I've always wondered this!

As for *my* style it's eclectic I suppose because it's got the traditional elements - - sentimental antiques from relatives, a few contemporary splashes (catalog stuff from WE, etc.) and plenty of vintage. I guess it's "New Orleans", since that's where I'm from and I seem to take the "New Orleans" with me wherever I go :)

I was going to say traditional but after reading Pal's synopsis I would say transitional is more fitting. Ballard/Pottery Barn + antques = ??

Ruthpets, the way I understand it is contemporary is what it popular Now. Modern is form over function from the 1920's through 1950's(?) or 60's. There are many conflicting views on that so feel free all to step in.

oops - just read Pal's post - TY!! Cooking and Houzz-ing at the same time so I missed it!!

I don't see Uncluttered as an option. ;) Definitely not a minimalist, tho. A bit of this, a bit of that with white walls. hmmmm..... not sure i have a style. It is just me and what I like.

Eclectic because I can't seem to rid myself of sentimental items from when we lived in Singapore and put them in a moderately craftsman/cottage home on Puget Sound. Most people probably say, "What the heck?"

Using Pals description, our current house is definitely 4(traditional), with just a few electic touches. Ski house, transitional at least the first floor but the new basement apartment leans contemporary and upstairs leans 11 (other --honestly a upstairs is a real mishmash -- for example the sitting room features grandmother's purple velvet chair and DD's college couch, while the master (DD and SIL's room) has a room and board stainless steel Portia bed and speak modern nightstands and dressers and a rustic leather chair (and two large dog beds to trip over. Our room has DH's batchler pad dresser, a drafting table, for a nightstand/workstation, and a king bed with no headboard -- it is a comfortable, pleasant room, but not one with any sense or even pretense of style and not one I'd relish visitors viewing.

New house will be transitional primarily, but leaning toward contemporary, wiih a few rustic touches -- a style sometimes referred to as "Mountain Modern".

I'm eclectic contemporary or contemporary eclectic. So, 1 &2. I have "now" contemporary and early eighties contemporary in an eclectic mix.

    #4. I love traditional styles.

    #5 Mid-Century

    #11 other: Victorian

Yes, I like modern, clean lines and the ornate.

Is there such a thing as Contemporary Early American?

    Romantic!

I dont really have a number. lol I would guess I am #6 Transitional because I'm really in between #4 traditional and #8 craftsman/#11 victorian

    8 Craftsman

My first house back in 1987 was a craftsman.

My second house was a Victorian/Colonial Revival. It wasn't me.

My condo is decorated in craftsman/asian and we are building a craftsman style home. I was doing craftsman before you could find craftsman things like lighting, shaker cabinets, etc.

    #4 with straight clean lines.

#11 - Must be, because since doing this house people have asked me "so what style IS your house?" ( hard to convey the tone with which that question is asked...;)

A bit of cottage a bit traditional. A bit pottery barn!!
