Bedrooms are where you make the most laundry, so I always locate them near the bedroom. If you have kids, you may want it just outside the bedroom so they can do their own laundry as they get older.

It's great in master if you DONT have kids. But as a mom of 4 boys, I had my mud room / laundry outside kitchen. Muddy clothes... Wet snow pants.... Do you really want that stuff carried through the house and dealt with upstairs? Much easier to bring a contained basket of dirty pj and under ware downstairs.

I will not have kids living with me when the home is completed. And we will have a extra small laundry room in the basement. I guess my biggest concern is, how will the master closet will feel with a w/d in it. Like work or convenience, not sure. Does anyone have a W/D in there master closet now that could give me some advice?

Although we have never put a washer and dryer in the master closet, we have many home designs where the laundry room is off the master closet. It is such a convenient location!

Personally the master in today's home signals retreat. How about a hallway closet or in second bathroom on master level?

If you and your husband are very athletic, it can make life very easy to have a small stack unit in the master as that is where you change. But, only if you have a laundry room elsewhere to handle the household laundry.

No, as washing machines always have 'washing' smell and it will linger in the room, plus others reasons are you don't want service people ( in the event of any repairs) to be entering your bedroom, and you don't want flooding either which does happen with washing machines, so steer clear from having it in the bedroom.

I was wondering the same thing. We are about to do a remodel. We downsized and have a much smaller master closet, which, in fact, backs up to the laundry room. We thought by taking down the wall between the master closet and laundry area and located our stacked laundry unit at opposite end of closet opening that it would be easier to access from closet, master bath etc. Our youngest is leaving for college in August.

@bushkk123 what did you decide?. We are in the same position, our master bath backs onto the very very oversized laundry/sewing room. We are thinking of putting the w/d in the MB, in which they would easily fit

My dryer vents into my garage. It’s messy, and actually a bit dangerous when there’s moisture. The easiest move would be to the master closet, so it could vent to an outside wall. That would require the least movement of plumbing and electrical. im just afraid of what that would do for resale?

Im about to do the same thing , im renovating a 4 bed 2 1/2 bath waterfront home . 2 bed down with shared bath and 2 bed up with shared bath .. im making the 2 nd bed down into a huge walk in with the laundry area ; it would be on the same wing of the home as the master bed .. im making the shared bath a true master bath now . . Im remove the wall in the current laundry to make the kitchen bigger. ita just me and my boyfriend .. kids are grown .. curious what a buyer would think of that on resale ..

I am remodeling my master closet and since it backs up to the laundry/mud room, I am adding a stackable set in my closet. I’ve seen this trend more and more and think it’s a brilliant idea. It makes sense to me and my husband especially since we won’t have to leave our room and go through the main area to get our laundry when there are visitors or an event.

I forgot to add that I would not do this if this was the only washer/dryer set in the house.

We just finished our home design and I love having my W/D in the Master Closet. I like hanging my shirts before they are completely dry.

We just finished our new home design as retirees and we included the W/D in the Master Closet. So convenient to hang my shirts as they dry to reduce wrinkles

Some members on this board claim It is a bad idea to have a closet accessable from the master bathroom due to the moisture and "potential" for moldy clothes. I cannot image the moisture problem with a washer/dryer in the closet.

We live in Houston where it is notoriously humid. We are about to close on a house that has a master closet with 12' x 10' dimenisons. So.... I have put my foot down and even stamped it to demonstrate my desire to locate the W/D in the master closet! The house currently has a tiny laundry room just next to the kitchen. By relocating the W/D to the master closet we will be able to turn the current laundry room into a walk-in pantry!! We are in our 60's and I am really tired of schlepping baskets and armloads of clothes through the house. If you think about it, what if we had to carry all the dishes to another part of the house, wash them - and carry them back to the kitchen - would that make any sense? Also, we have a couple of rolling room dehumidifiers. We will simply turn one on when we wash clothes, and obviously, the dryer will vent to the outside. The closet even has an AC vent in the ceiling. I will continue to blow past my husband's hesitancy on this plan. I know how to pick my battles, and this one I'm gonna win.

I have a smaller WD in my master closet in addition to a regular laundry off my kitchen, which I only use for larger loads of laundry; sheets, bedding, towels. It’s GREAT. Always easy to throw a load of clothes in while getting ready in the morning. Wouldn’t have it any other way, now!
