Help with living room

My friend just moved into a new condo. In her living room she has this cubby that she is trying to figure out a cool way to decorate it. The wall across from the cubby has a fireplace and her tv. I told her that the Houzz group would probably be able to help. Please don't let me down lol

Terrific ideas here on Houzz- this is a "Harry Potter" cubby! You can make them into built in book shelves, a reading nook or even a desk for a PC:

Not tall enough for a desk or reading nook. Additionally there are two HVAC vents in the nook so it can't be closed off.

Since there is an electric and cable hook up in the nook, I suspect the contractor thought this was a good place for a flatscreen TV. Not sure it's wide enough.

I've seen spaces like this tiered into a dog bed or kid friendly reading nook. Lacking kids or a pet, I'd have a handy person install a shelf that allows air vents to work but hold books.

I've seen areas like that used for storage (arranged in an attractive way, with coordinated baskets, etc.).
