While most carpet tiles aren't advertised for "outdoor" application because they are non-permeable (meaning they have a rubber backing on the bottom), it really depends on the application. In this case, this particular deck receives a lot of sunshine and little rain, so any moisture is immediately dried out by the sun. The added measure I took to ensure the tiles wouldn't get soaked, is I did not glue or tape them down or tape them to each other. In this way, all my client would need to do is pick them up and set them on their side to dry out. I would avoid placing the carpet tiles over storm drains, however. Be sure water can run off the sides of any deck or patio application.
