I would not paint your faux wood white. You are working with the red brick floor as well as the fireplace. I like your mirror but would suggest more of a black or bronze instead of the white. I think you have a nice set up on the mantle.

I wouldn't add anything. I would take away a few items. I would lower the mirror. Put both the oil lamps on the left and leave just the vase on the right. Remove the candlestick. Remove the M. Put the gourds and pumpkins in a small basket with the leaves, remove the silk flowers

I wanted to show my mantle to y'all. I now I don't follow the less is more, but for the fall and Christmas season I like it full and colorful for the holiday. Then I throw in a little personal or items with family meaning.

You have a traditional inglenook here and the decor needs to be very traditional and period correct, IMO.

to my eye, the mirror is a styling contrast, but not in a good way. as does that two tone pottery vase. i'd also shove all those little gourds together in a group. also....wood color problem. i don't like the floor/kitchen chair oak stained wood next to the red tones of fireplace mantle and benches. i like how you're considering painting these pieces... it would be a good thing!

You have a lot going on. With faux walls. Are you painting? Remove every thing. Add two square prints with color. In simple frames. Or frameless. Side by side 5" above mantel. Should be 7" from ceiling. Should almost cover wall. Check this n line for ideas. A little gather wall color may work too.
