Splurge - Which Pull Should I Get?

The knobs for the upper cabs are selected, as are the pulls for the refrigerator, but I cannot decide between these two for the lower cabinets and drawers.

These are Ashley Norton, real bronze, so they are a splurge, the real deal, and very hefty bronze, gorgeous color (I saw it in person the other day).

The cabs will be sage green in Shaker.

I'm leaning toward the first pull, the "L Pull". Some will be @ 9", others shorter. I love the idea of the more sleek, modern style but in the rustic bronze. My concern with these is, do you think having to cup fingers to pull them, rather than being able to put fingers inside from the top, would be a hassle/problem?

Second pull is the "Pyramid pull". I think this one reflects the Shaker style of the cabinets.

Any opinions?

I have cup pulls and the style where fingers are inserted. Neither presents a problem. Get what pleases you aesthetically.

Either one you buy, your hands will adjust to the pull. I've had both types and I adjusted. I prefer the first ones, they're so interesting and artistic.

Love the first one. I agree with yayagal and think you will adjust.

Should mention that the L pull has a projection of only 7/8" while the Pyramid has a projection of 1-1/8". Is under and inch enough? Having such a hard time with this decision! Can't believe I'm even getting these. They are so expensive! Eek.

I'm going to make a mock-up of the L pull to see if that projection is okay or too small.

Dh vetoed cup pulls in our master bath because he finds them difficult to use. His hands are bigger than mine and with a shaker drawer and the pull installed in the center of the recessed panel, it was even worse.

I like the first one, too. Could you order one to try it out? It seems as though 7/8" should be okay (sez the lady sitting on the couch eyeballing the depth of her fingers).

I really love the second ones, but I admit I have been drawn to pyramidal pulls lately. That's what I went with in my powder room, but knobs, and the pulls were t-pulls with pyramidal ends. Its a square edge, straight line but with a softening, and so more interest. At least that is my spin.....

crl, I had the same thought, that people with bigger hands and fingers would have a hard time with the L pulls, and I do rent my house out. 7/8" is not a lot of room.

Cyn, also thought of that, that if it's in the center panel, does that make it even worse?

These are the knobs I'm getting, which I think match the pyramid pulls

With the L shaped pulls, you would have to reach down a little farther to get your fingers under them. As someone who has had back issues, this would make the decision for me. Appearance wise, I like the second one better, but I like thinks a little more complex than plain.

I have pulls and knobs that are from different lines from the same manufacturer. I fell in love with the knobs, but the pulls had very little projection, and I didn't like how tight they were to put my hand in them. I got a slightly different pull in the same finish as the knobs. I'm probably the only one who knows (or cares). I suggest you get some samples and see how they feel in person, especially if they are on the pricey side.

Hope you enjoy your new kitchen.

I'm going to go with the second, the Pyramid. I think it's perfect for Shaker cabs, and that small projection of the L pull is not sitting well with me.

while I haven't seen the pulls in person, I have seen the Ashley Norton bronze, and in the color I'm getting, in person in other hardware of theirs. It's incredible.

Now I have to decided between the two AN pulls I want for the refrigerator! Ugh. Love both of those too!

I prefer the pyramid! they will look great with your knobs. and, I think I would prefer using them too...

Tib, what happened to the Candler pull? I like the pyramid pull a lot. I think it is more striking than the Candler. So anxious to see your kitchen reno started!

I like the pyramid pulls. I didn't know that's what they're called. It just so happens that I was doing a project yesterday with items that are 7/8" in diameter. It's not very large and I have small hands.

Now that we see your knobs and understand the depth of projection for the L-pull, I understand your choice of the pyramid pull.

You must be getting so excited about your reno!

Glad you chose the one easier to grab. Another unintended consequence of pulls too close to the surface is the constant contact with your fingers will wear off the paint/finish. This has happened to me in two kitchens now. You def made the right choice!

Back from the kitchen hardware place, where I came to my senses! I was so in love with that Ashley Norton bronze stuff, but it is SO expensive. Back in the store, and looking at the "regular" stuff, I regained my sanity and ended up really doing the right thing and getting Top Knobs stuff for the cabinets while going with Ashley Norton for the Sub Zero handles. The Sub Zero, because of the suction, really does need good and substantial handles, but the cabs really don't.

The knobs for the top cabinets were tough. I think round knobs are blah, but oval knobs seem so small. I've ended up with what I think is an eclectic but good mix.

Top pic is of the Ashley Norton appliance pull I'm getting (in dark bronze). I need three of them since the SZ I'm getting has two freezer drawers. Diameter is 1", so these are quite substantial and gorgeous.

Next pic is of the handle for the lower cabs and drawers.

Last pic is of the knob that will go on the top cabs.

Cab hardware will be in flat black.

Nice, I like them a lot, Tibbie! I can't wait to see pics when your new kitchen is finished.

Thanks, Linen! I know they look like a mishmash in the pics above, but the two lower ones really do look good together, and I don't care that the fridge doesn't match.

HK, I decided against the Candler because someone is selling them on eBay and has pics of the pull in the plastic bag showing the underside of the pull. It is concave and looks flimsy, and I decided they don't look hefty enough for the refrigerator. I really don't want to have to replace the fridge pulls in a few years, and the KD who helped me with the cabinets told me the SZs need good pulls because of their suction.

OP, very excited. I've begun slowly taking the kitchen apart and taking cabinet doors to the dump a few at a time so they don't charge me! I'll do that with the old kitchen waste over the next year! Lol.

I am so happy to hear that, local eater! It's very pretty from the front, and it has a slight bend to it, which will compliment the handles, I think.

Oh wait, you mean the pull, not the knob. I'm referring to the "knob" in the above sentence. They're from two different Top Knob lines, but both in matte black look good together. I like the handle a lot and am pleased to hear you like yours.

Just gorgeous! I'm glad you're going with the second option, as I think they look best with your knobs. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Late to the party today-sigh, teaching does interfere with my GW time-but since you showed the knobs, I am glad you chose the second pull. They are perfect together! Yippee.

Cyn, not sure what you mean by "the second pull". I bailed on the Ashley Norton pulls for the cabinets. Only getting the Nortons for the Sub Zero refrigerator. The "Crescent" pull, from Top Knobs's "Nouveau II" collection and the rectangle knob from their "Mercer" collection will be going on the cabinet doors and drawers now. Fortunately, a friend is a major home builder in this area, so I was able to get a discount via his company, on all of it. Still, bailing on the Ashley Norton for the cabinet hardware saved me @ $1200. That stuff is gorgeous, but and it's worth the extra expense, IMO, if one has the money. But humble little me, dog sitter extraordinaire...nope :-(.

Ty, OP. I'm my own GC! Lol. Easy enough. I'm not changing anything structurally; same footprint. Sub Zero will cause one side of the kitchen to be extended by three inches. Lucky there is room to do that! Not replacing the stove, micro, or dishwasher at this time. Only replacing the floor, cabs, sink, and counters and fridge, and I can't believe what THAT is costing! Yikes. Thank goodness for tiny kitchens!

    I really like your choices!

But I am off to visit Ashley Norton site. I may need to take a 2nd job-- pulls have me stumped right now. Dang GW for introducing me to new stuff!

Not to sound ignorant...maybe I missed something....

Do Sub Zero appliances NOT come with pulls?

sumac, you can get pulls with the Sub Zero. You do pay for them, i.e.: not included in the price of the refrigerator. Sub Zero offers a couple of choices, tubular and professional, both stainless steel.

I'm getting a panel-ready fridge, so the cabinet makers will also make panels for the refrigerator. I didn't want SS pulls, so I picked my own pulls.

peppapoodle, I think my jaw dropped when I saw the Ashley Norton stuff in person. What I actually saw was their door hardware, but it gave me a very good idea as to what they sell. It's truly stunning stuff. But you pay for it. Muy esspensive! Worth it, IMO, if you have the money to spend on it.

Thank you for the explanation. I should have added that I like your choices and think it will look great.

I sure hope so, aktillery. To return - and even exchange - there's all the return costs, 25% restocking fee....geez. Im most curious about the more modern knob I got for the top cabinets. We shall see!

Btw, aktillery, did you see the thread where someone is looking for dark brown paint? I mentioned your Brainstorm Bronze and linked her to one of your threads with pics of your room. Hope that's okay w/u. Might want to chime in as well, give her your own thoughts on the BB
