I repotted the phal. belonging to the lady next door. Why? Because it was in Spag. within one of those soft plastic sleeves. In that set-up you could get away with watering every couple of months.

What is musk? I assume you mean spag. SF Bay Area might need fine tuning from the locals because of humidity and coolness.

Perhaps you are talking about new growths, they can come from the base of the plant or from nodes on the flowering stem.

Post a picture so they can help you. Here you will find lots of great people as great advice too.

Annamaria I personally don't like moss i used barn in my orchids. Is easy to post a picture here bellow the block where you write there is a camera click on the symbol of the camera and choose the best option where you picture is then submit it.

Yenika...tried a couple of time doing what you said, it did not work, my pics are still in my phone....them but I can't download them on the Forum :-(. I'm in the San Francisco Mid-Peninsula and yessss...I grow all my orchids indoors. They are by a south window but not in direct sunlight. I'll cut some slits on the sides of the insert/pots and I'll wait until Spring to repot. I will follow your suggestions and not watering as much.

Arthurm...about the one with the growths: there is a mini set of tiny leaves on one of the flower stems and looks like it will produce more flowers later on.

The tiny set of mini leaves is a keiki (baby plant), when it grows some roots you can remove it from the mother plant.

arthurm, I had to remove all of the sph. moss from one of the phal., should I use fine bark since it's a small plant? Also, all of the roots below the moss were Dead...is it okay to use the areal ones ?

I will do the same with the other One with the keiki, it's slowly growing !
