any name in quotes .. means it was either a cross.. or a selection ... and odds get lower with those ... as to replication thru seed ...

that said.. why not go for it..

all you lose.. is the predictability of getting exact replicas ... so what ... you will still end up with new plants ... free being the key word ...

ps: i planted alyssum 16 years ago ... its still reseeding itself... they are all white now ... so what .... not coming true.. in regard to these.. would only mean.. you will not get many purples.. colors other than white .. as i said.. who cares.. go for it ...

I collect seed from gomphrena plants to start plants inside the next spring. Alyssum plants self seed but don't know what per cent come true as have a mixture of white and purple ones each year from starter plants of many years ago.

Some Amaranthus caudatus varieties self-sow like crazy so you don't have to worry about saving their seeds, while others (like 'Elephant Head') have barely self-sowed for me.

It's a bit of a crapshoot as to what will grow from saved seed. I've found that small ornamental peppers generally come true from seed.

totally disagree that collecting alyssum is not worthy, I've been reseed them over 5 years, still get lost of colors, save seeds from the best individual. (I live in Indonesia, and enjoying alyssum all year long). just as Ken said... Go for it... free and fun.. and share some with friends.
