What am I????

This Hoya was purchased at Lowes a couple weeks ago and was tagged "Hoya Obovata"

Denise kindly informed me that it's not an Obovata. This is the second EA Hoya purchased at Lowes that was misidentified.

i love the thick rounded leaves with a slight tip but have no clue as to what variety I have. Any and all ideas will be welcomed :-)

Looks like a carnosa or motoskei (which some think is the true carnosa)

Thank you. Denise thought it might be a motoskei as well. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed I thought it was a totally different variety from a Carnosa (of which I have 1/2 a dozen :-(

Looks very much like my 'Mathilde', which coincidentally was the subject of my very first post here on GW (as I had forgotten what it was).

My motoskei has more prominent veins with zero splash/speckles, and has upright growth.

Hoya carnosa chelsea. Very beautiful plant but shy bloomer. :)

I was just going to say that it looked like one of what Denise calls a "busted" Chelsea that had lost its dimples. Some of my vines on the EA plant looked like that and some kept the deep dimples. The "busted" ones were like your pic, Monica, slightly heart shaped.

Oh derp, that's totally a Chelsea. IDK why houzz photos always look stretched out to me...

Yes, I think Chelsea is a good guess, too. 'Mathilde' leaves are tiny by comparison. And if you want an obovata, I have a nice start that I'd sell cheap right now to "make room, make room"!!

Wow, who knew "busted" Chelsea. But it absolutely describes my plant. Thank you for "her" identity.

Denise - I may be interested in the Obovata. I also got a great bargain on a Dischidia today. Once again the EA tag just says Dischidia.

Dischidia oiantha - a crazy-easy Dischidia to grow! It can take over your environment, but I love the jungly look it creates...

All that is coming from that little 4" pot on the 2nd shelf down! In all the years I've grown it (at least a dozen), though, it has never bloomed. I also grow the variegated one they call "white diamonds"...

Thanks again Denise. It caught my eye because it looks so much like a Hoya. I've never had one before but I'm so glad you said it's an easy grower. :-)

i got this Dischidia and a huge spider for $5. each.

What a bargain! I never run into deals like that!

I received Chelsea cuttings in April with dimples and mostly heart shaped. Miss Chelsea spent the summer outside, was happy and grew a bit. As she grew she is less heart shape and less dimpled. Is the 'busted Chelsea' change something to worry about or just a part of maturing? She seems healthy. Hahaha wasn't sure I would be able to post pix but it popped right up!!!

Here is a picture of my cutting of the "chelsea" cultivar.

You mean to tell me the leaves will not stay like this?

It may - I've seen plenty of photos of full plants that have nearly identical leaves. The one I have isn't that way. Leaves vary from slightly dimpled to flat and heart shaped to flat and carnosa shaped...

I suspect, too, that true 'Chelsea' leaves are much smaller than most on mine. Mine has some leaves that are about 1" across, but many of them are 2.5-3". Lots of variability!

That's interesting, Denise. I just saw a Hindu Rope on eBay that's doing something goofy with it's leaves as well.

Yes, Hindu Rope is another one that can be pretty variable. My sister has a very stable one who's leaves are consistently the turned inward type. I've seen them more like the one in your link, where the leaves are just very "scrunchy" looking, but you can see the whole leaf surface. To me, they are SO different from each other, there should be different cultivar names.

That is also how my hindu rope is. I guess the ones that EA are sending out look like that.

Does anyone know if the "chelsea" will twine around a trellis?

You need to pin it but not really self supporting like H australis.
