Small Powder room decor

Hi everyone,

I'll be posting alot in the coming months. We recently renovated our home (still under renos actually) and are working on finishing touches at a snail's pace. The powder room is the smallest and "easiest" room to tackle but for the life of me I cant figure out what to put on these walls. We used ralph lauren metallic paint in "silver plated". Going for a modern feel with a few rustic/industrial touches (think RH inspired). Anyway, still looking for a light fixture, but the space behind the toilet and the wall next to it look so bare. Suggestions please :)

All interior doors will be painted black soon, including the powder room door.

And as a side note, the chain on the mirror needs to be cut...that's why it's hanging to the side ;)

Just a few ideas see if it helps, i like glam but i also enjoy irony.

powder rooms love wall paper these days, whether it is glam or forest trees or faux library.

I love this one. it no nonsense, and then there is that single artwork lighted by that workers lamp, like a museum in a gas station.

Because there's almost equal focus on the 2 adjoining walls, what about art like this, divided in 2? .... sister art pieces of any kind that you like...http://james-insogna.artistwebsites.com/products/a-very-old-indian-harley-davidson-james-bo-insogna-canvas-print.html

Add a bit of yellow with the grey?

I type '2 set art' and select 'shop' and lots:

Thanks for the feedback. Would you leave the wall behind the toilet bare and just add art to the adjoining wall given that it's much bigger?

You could go with something that has a functional purpose, like adding shelves on the wall behind the toilet

I would not add anything to that wall and take the focus away from the funky mirror.

Personally I like the bareness of your walls. Im not a fan of many protruding things and clutter in tiny spaces, like shelves or even artwork. What really should include all the needed interest are the wall, floor and ceiling surfaces in themselves as well as the functional necessary elements like light fixtures and mirror etc.

I dont know what your ceiling and floor are like but I would make sure atleast one of those surfaces provides interesting contrast to the walls. You could also consider stenciling the wall behind the toilet or all of the walls though that may not be the look you are going for. Or just a wallpapered or tiled accent wall(behind the toilet wall).

A good light fixture can make a great statement and difference too.

Oh you know stenciling reminded me of these, i think this could be wonderful and there are 1000s, easily removable too.

Art also is always great anywhere you can put it, just get original or make your own photos, black and white would be perfect here. making them is even easier than color, very forgiving medium. But of course it is easily too busy in such a small room.

great space but i would definitely remove the chain. i have a small powder room as well. here are a few things that i did.

a glass modern shelf over the toilet would be nice and a piece of artwork on the side wall..

If you want to or need to add shelves, to me making it more 'bathroom-y' then I can see no art. Shelves could have a decorative item or two. I'd like to see those walls in person -- as not many paint metallic that I know personally. :)

I had time to briefly look at photographer's website and above I posted an old motorcycle - that 'distressed' metal chunky chain look could be cool with your chain-mirror....? photo with person or thing showing texture, or movement, or moody lightning....

I will probably go with black and white photos as many of you have suggested. The floor tile is dark charcoal grey, looks like some sort of concrete/stone (I love it!). I like the idea of glass shelves behind the toilet as it would add function and can also hold some decorative items. Once I find the right light fixture I know it will make a big difference too. Unfortunately, hubby wont move the fixture so I can have a chandy in there so im stuck with a light over the mirror, LOL.

everdebz, we were actually just going to paint the walls a light grey until I came across the metallic paint. it actually has a hammered metal finish (we need to go over it a few times to make it a bit more pronounced). im actually very happy to have come across the metallic :)

After your work, I'd say wall items should take second place to the wall. Please post a photo during or after......

Do you have any photo subject in mind yet? What do you think about a tough object, or person, or force of nature ..

Or with one part in a color, like this for example. I'd want a bit of color, though you might in a towel, etc...

everdebz, i love your suggestions! I am going to see if I can find some cool b & w prints of famous monuments in argentina and italy (ethcnic backgrounds for Hubby and I). The obelisk in Buenos Aires could look really cool

i also love photos of trees/branches...but may do more of that in other areas of the house so we shall see what i find in my search...
